Disney Reveals Details of New Ship
Disney Cruise Line’s next ship – the first of three the line has ordered – will be called Disney Wish, it has been revealed.
Wish will be the first of three new Disney ships and will enter service in January 2022. The reveal came as part a major update from chairman of Disney parks, experiences and products Bob Chapek. Speaking at the D23 Expo 2019, Chapek was joined by Dick Van Dyke for a performance of Step in Time! to announce the first Mary Poppins attraction at a Disney park.
Key announcements focused on the Avengers Campus coming to Disney’s parks in California and Paris, the transformation of Disney’s Epcot park and progress on Disney Cruise Line. Disney will take delivery of Wish in late-2021, which will feature a three-storey atrium inspired by an enchanted fairytale with Rapunzel gracing its stern, said Chapek. He also teased a “signature island experience” celebrating the nature, spirit and culture of the Bahamas during a new Disney call on the island of Eleuthera.
Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser will come to Walt Disney World Resort, offering guests a two-night adventure featuring special activities, dining and a “spaceport” day on Batuu at Disney’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge experience. Starting next year, guests at Disney California Adventure Park, and later those at Disneyland Paris, will be able to “suit up” alongside their favourite Avengers characters. Both campuses will feature ride-through Spider-Man attractions, while offering other experiences featuring Ant-Man and The Wasp, Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy and Iron Man.
At Disneyland Paris specifically, Disney will launch Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel celebrating 80 years of Marvel art and artists. Rooms will feature “themed suites” based around certain Marvel characters. Coming late next year, Disney will introduce Disney Genie, a new digital platform designed to enhance guest experience at Walt Disney World Resort making it easier for guests and families to put together a customised itinerary during their trip. Guests will be able to tell genie what they want to experience, with the service then coming up with an optimal day.
